My TD5 has developed a drink problem and loss of perfomance. I'm thinking it might be the MAF sensor (revs fade and then increase while cruising). I've disconnected the MAF and taken it for a drive and it made no difference to the running of the engine. Should unplugging the MAF make a noticable difference if its working OK?

Hi there, are you referring to the Mass Air Flow sensor? If you are, I reckon your symptoms are more inclined to be due to the MAP in the inlet manifold.

Have heard of this getting gungy and causing problems often. Clean with an appropriate solvent.

Hope that helps,

Cheers & good luck

I puchased a Nanocom unit, pluged it in and the air flow meter isnt showing any values, so looks like a new one is needed. it also showed that there is an EGR vacuum solenoid short circuit. The EGR is blanked off so should I worry about this?

I recently unplugged the MAF on my TD5, just out of curosity, and it didn't make any difference to the running of the car. Like you, I was wondering what this ment. The MAF multi plug had a film of dirt on it, so I sprayed it ( and the sensor on the air box!). The car is now running much better. It wasn't particulary bad, but I noticed a tailing off of the power in 2nd gear.

Cheers

Andy
