Hi All,

Just bought a 53 plate TD5 on Friday, noticed this morning there was water in the rooflining on the drivers side from the front A-pillar to the B-pillar.

It was parked on a fairly flat drivway overnight.

Do you think this is just the drain pipes from the sunroof, or sunroof rubbers or windscreen.

I bought it from a Main Dealer so it is in with them as we speak but haven't seen water in that position before. my last series 2 did leak in various places but never had a wet roof lining in that position on the right hand side above the Drivers window.

What's the most likely cause.

Cheers
Wayne

Most likeley to be the sunroofs, mine leaks in the same way depending on how you park it, on a steep hill facing up, it will run out over the back door, facing down, in the middle out of the interior light and when parked on the flat in between the A&B pillars over the window...

Go buy gaffer tape and silicone and wait for a day without rain to bodge it up!!!

Hopefully won't need the silicon and tape just yet, got a year's Land Rover warranty so they can sort it out.

Just wasn't sure if it could just be the drain tubes or the sunroof itself.

I thought if the drain tubes get blocked then you get a wet footwell, the footwells are dry, at least they are at present until the water finds a way out of the headlining and onto the floor.!!

Anyway I don't mind if it takes them a few days to sort it out as they've given me a new Disco 3 HSE to use in the meantime.

Anyone else got any opinions wether it is the Sunroof's or just the drain tubes?

I put gaffer tape as a temporary fix over the gap between the glass and the frame with a view of giving it a proper go when the weather gets better.

However, It has made very little difference.

On closer inspection, where the frames actually join the metal is a very poor fit and seems to be slightly distorted by age. I will be trying to seal it there as soon as is possible.

Hi Hewey, my 2004 TD5 went back to the dealer 4 times to try and find a leak that was showing as a wet patch on the headlining at the top corner of the windscreen.
After the whole headlining had been removed they found that the leak was from one of the rear alpine lights, think that is what they are called (the small window in the roof) and there is a box section that runs the length of the car which the water was running along.

Took them 4 days to sort and I was also in a new Disco 3 whilst they did it.

Got exactly the same problem with my 1999 series 2 - i siliconed my front sunroof glass to frame and frame to roof. This stopped the water dripping off my interior auto glare mirror and down my stereo (well handy!) but not the R/H roof lining. Will do the same to the rear sunroof and side roof quarters as well as soon as the sun shines and it drys out.

Still love it though - good job really!!!

Thanks Chaps,

We will see what they come back with.

Is it possible that it could just be the drain tubes?

Just asking as I'm sure that will be what they say first as it's the easiest and cheapest thing to do.

Plastic trim around sunroof outer tends to lift ,doesnt take a lot for water to get in clear silicon all round shud do it worked on mine .(famous last words)

Ive got a 53 plate TD5,GS7seat had identical same problem, took it to dealer, his workshop had it a few days could not find the prob, had it back leaked again within couple of days, took it back, booked in three days, Landrover just ID a new fault on the driver side roofrack rail end, fixed it no probs. There was another 53 plate in same workshop same prob, it was his third booking it had been in for a week each time hope they fixed his.

Cheers Guy's,

Land Rover left a message Fridat to say they'd sealed it and it was going in for "Water Soak Testing"..

Guess what....

They found another leak

Still at least I'm putting miles on their Disco 3 and not my TD5 and it does more to the gallon.
