Td5 into a series 2a

Thats why i have 1 plus bits kicking around ive replaced 1 in my 90 csw and am going to fit a diesel engine to my series 2a. Thought i could kill 2 birds with 1 stone tidy up and fit diesel lump. Lol but havin said that the td5 has been a pain in the arse. But so has the 2a hahaha

Many would say that the 195lb ft of torque from a 200tdi is a bit dodgy to put through a series gearbox, The TD5 can give 221lb ft of torque. The most the standard engines put throught a IIA box was 132 lb ft of torque from the 6cyl 2.6 petrol.

The td5 would risk shredding the 'box.
It can be done, I fitted a 2.0 turbo rover t series in a mini, there was a lot involved, the td5 is gonna be similar.
You'd have to remove the entire loom, sus out which parts are needed, like all the engine wiring, the injector ecu, the security ecu, central locking ecu, etc etc.
The td5 vehicle has a transponder in the ignition key, what I did with the mini is remove the reader coil from the ignition switch and remove the transponder from the key and tape it to the coil so it was there all the time, and fiited the security ecu and the central locking ecu (you need the locking ecu as it communicates with the security ecu), there are also a bunch of relays that need sorting out, and connecting up to the correct fuses etc.
As you can see theres a whole load of stuff to be done, it can be done if you know your electrics, but its a lot easier to fit a 200 or 300 engine.

do you know how many lb ft of torque a perkins phaser is likely to give out and is this a good idea in a series 3 gearbox?:)
sorry for hijaking your thread

Looking at the figures below the phaser is gonna make mincemeat out of a standard series box, the smallest is still considerably more than the tougher r380 fitted to the 300 on, which is rated as its name suggests 380Nm.

Also looks a hell of a lump, does it go in?

originally a combine engine but at the moment its in a scrap range rover classic and it fits that engine bay alright so i reckon id get it in my lightweight but probably wont if its just going to destroy it!

If you tek the 'box with it as long as it was put in correctly it'd be ok, only the rangie box will have diffo mounts depending on the year.

I've no experience of Perkins Phaser engines, but I bet they weigh a lot more than a 2 1/4 diesel engine and are probably fairly low revving. Just get a 200Tdi from a Discovery and fit it to your series III gearbox - no messing. They are fantastic engines and work amazingly well in a series Land-Rover. With a 200Tdi under the bonnet a series Land-Rover can do better than just keep up with modern traffic, it can overtake modern traffic.

Busy, busy (as per usual I guess).

After having driven the new Disco 4 I've got to say, don't bother with the TDV8. The 3.0l TDV6 is their latest engine and they've worked wonders with it.

Bearing in mind that it's a 2.7 tonne vehicle it does 0-60 in ~9s and they've boosted the power from 190hp to 244hp and the torque from 440Nm to 600Nm while boosting the fuel efficiency by ~11%.

The Experience Instructors who were there to answer our questions said that there isn't a huge amount to differentiate between the V8s and V6s. I asked about whether you could get the Disco4 with the TDV8 and he said there wasn't any point.

So god knows what they're going to do when they revamp the TDV8, admittedly you could always fit the new 5.0l supercharged V8 that's a Jag/LR hybrid (just a measly 510hp)...
