TD5 Injector Loom

I changed my injector loom in the disco last November. I used a Bearmach one as that's what I had. Since then I have had to clean out the red ECU plug about 6 times following various strange issues which were resolved after cleaning it out (usually stuttering while accelerating but the other day it started and idled ok but when revved up it was misfiring). I would have thought by now it would have cleared the oil in the wiring? I can only think the oil is continuing to get through.

I will change the loom for a genuine one, and may consider changing the whole engine loom although YSB000831 will cost about £450+VAT (ouch). Are the Bearmach ones no good?

I've seen aftermarket injector loom(which bearmach is as well) failed after 3 months other in 6, i changed two in one year few years ago untill i fitted a genuine one and that's OK, the cheapest genuine i could find is here https://www.ebay.com/itm/GENUINE-La...oom-AMR6103-/220604627489?hash=item335d0f7a21

I had oil ingress in my loom 2 years ago, as a 'get me home' fix, I took the rocker cover off and bunged up the engine end of the loom socket with Vaseline. Cleaned the ecu end and it worked, I cleaned the ecu end once a month for a few times and its still working. I have a 15p engine which was meant to be better...

I changed mine about 4 years ago, as soon as I bought it as you could see oil in the red plug.
I used a non genuine one and its still going strong, although it did take a year or more to finally get rid of all the oil that was in the loom.

Its dry as a whistle now, although ill be replacing it again soon with the next service as it will eventually recur again if not replaced I guess. I know some people do regard them as a service item!

Personally I’d just leave it alone, but as there cheap enough I’d buy one and have it on standby if the other fails, it’s less than an hour and only 1 spanner to change

No need to wait for the oil to reach the ECU, if oil appears in the upper plug at the head the loom is gone
