Hi,
I'm sure this topic has been covered a million and one times so apologies,
My 1999 TD5 defender has succumbed to the injector loom oiling problems,
I have carefully replaced the loom, cleaned the oil from the ecu red plug
but still have the problem,
my question/s are,
do i need to replace the loom all the way to the ecu ?
does the ecu need resetting in any way

all and any advice much appreciated,

just out of interest, how much would it cost (roughly) to have the work done at a landy garage and could anybody recommend a good one blackpool/preston area,

Mick

Did you drain the oil out of the ECU, and what other problems are you noticing?

And no, you won't have to replace the entire loom back to the ecu, however you may still have resdual oil seeping out for a while.

hi im in blackpool what is the actual problem
Hi John thanks for the reply,
out on the road everything is ok until you hit around 55/60 mph
when the engine starts misfireing,(not backfireing)
up to this speed everything is fine the engine revs freely and performs
normally.
Hope that helps,
Mick

Hi Tom,Thanks for your reply,
I haven't noticed any other problems, other
than the engine misfire,i have carefully cleaned
the ecu, also as you suggested cleaned the residual
oil.
It may in fact not be the oiling problem at all
but everything points to that.
Thanks
Mick

hi, do you still have the egr valve connected,if so has it been cleaned recently or better still removed, also once a new injector loom is fitted you need to clean the red plug on the ecu periodically until oil is no longer present as some oil still remains in the main loom and can take quite a while to work through

Hi Again John,
No i haven't cleaned the egr valve, i'll do that next job,or remove as you say.
I'll also keep an eye on any residual oil that may stiil be getting to the red plug.
Thanks again for your help.
Mick.

Also, check the blue header connector in beside the ECM under the seat. Mine was full of oil too as was the plug for the CKP sensor.

In actual fact, the wires to my CKP sensor had become brittle with heat and were intermittantly shorting the sensor out.

Worth a check, it only takes seconds to pull the plug off and spray the plug and sensor with an aerosol de-greaser or switch cleaner.
