hi, my td5 disco has got a bit of a "clatter" "diesel knock" when cold and when hot and ticking over. Done a lot of searching over the last hour or so and ive come to the conclusion that my injector clearances need doing. Does anybody have a clear method for doing this? i dont have any experience of the td5 engine yet. thanks and any help or guidance is greatful

Take the rocker cover off.

You,ll see the rockers and shaft that push down the injectors.

You need to get each injector on its full down stroke,( ie , cam lobe fully up ).

To do this you can either turn the crank nut, or rock the car, in gear, untill the cam lobe is up.

Now, when then injector is fully compressed, slacken off the adjuster lock nut and, with a flat screwdriver, turn the adjuster screw " in " untill you feel resistance. This is the injector, " bottoming out ". ( you,ll know when its there, as the screw goes really stiff ).

Once youve done this, you just turn the screw back ONE FULL TURN, and lock it back off.

Repeat for all five.

( I would advise you cover the timing chain with a rag or something, just in case you drop your sandwiches down there !! ).

cheers mate, just finished it now and wow what a difference its made it now sounds like a td5 not a chelsey tractor lol. thanks again

Did you notice how far " IN " you had to wind them, before they bottomed out ?.

Be interested to know how far out they were, making a lot of noise.
