You could however happen to break you window and phone your insurance company and get it changed that way, but of course that would be dishonest and you would never get me doing or suggesting anything like that.
But having just had mine changed after it cracked driving to work and getting a heated one fitted you will also need a relay for the fuse box under the bonnet and possibly the Body Control needs activated for the window to work, haven't got that far but the relay is only about £5.

my brothers td5 has no heated screen and he wants one fitted and he has already got the switch and relay and bcu turned on already for it .
just needs the screen
