Ok, I've got an issue with the fueling on my disco, when the fuel tank is full it has no problems, at a level just above half and below I have to let it prime for 10 seconds or so then it starts ok, if I don't let it prime it starts no problem but then dies and needs priming with full throttle until it purges all the air. When the tank is low and it needs priming you can hear the air being bleed from the filter. I have fitted new injector seals, no difference, changed the filter a couple of times, took the pipes off filter housing and cleaned out the filter inside rear outer one and I've had the fuel pump out and cleaned the filter on bottom although it was clean anyway. When it has to be primed you can hear it siphon back into the tank when it stops if you hold your ear to the boot floor.
As I say it's fine when the tank is over half full and always runs fine. This started after I ran very low on fuel! Oh and it's a 2003. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That "filter" u've cleaned in the rear outer pipe is named "air bleed valve" if this one is "tired" it could leave air in the system. U better replace it with a new one(WJN500110) before u do anything else... and replace the no-return valve in the rear inner pipe too(VUB503950) ... these are not expensive bits

That's what I was thinking but there doesn't appear to be anything in the rear inner pipe stub and why would it work ok with a full tank?

I'll Try these two bits first anyway, can't hurt.

About the full tank...take a bottle full with diesel and shake it, then take one half empty and shake it...see which one will have more air mixed in the diesel...that happens in the tank too... while u drive the car air mixes in the fuel and if the bleeding system doesnt work well it remaines there.

It will most definitely be the non return valve in your fuel filter housing ,now here's the tricky part ,if it's an early td5 (10p) you will need the all in one air bleed valve (no longer available to buy) or later td5 (15p) which is available to buy ,part no. Mentioned above but I'm guessing the earlier .if so the best thing to do is source a second hand fuel filter housing from a landrover breaker and fit that .if you need any more info feel free to ask as I had this problem and took me 18 months to sort out with not alot of help .cheers rob

My apologies for not reading post properly .just trying to help, the 15p non return valve is a pretty sturdy thing and when ever somebody posts on the priming problem it's always early models .if it's any help the non return valve in your ffh is a black plastic insert with an orange rubber over sleeve

Quick update, new air bleed stub fitted and all is good, no more air being bled everytime you turn on. Didn't have a non return valve in so that was a waste of a tenner but ha ho. Thanks for the help. :)

Glad u sorted it anyway ...about the non return valve...it's strange taking into acount that yours is a 2003 modell, it must have had it...it means the fuel filter housing is the old type... u can insert the non-return valve in the inner pipe though ... it wont hurt....or just keep it untill u will be forced to replace the filter housing with one with valve;)

The stub it goes in isn't quite large enough for the valve ( ain't no valve about it if you ask me) to go in. It is an early 3 chassis on a 52 reg!
