I was wondering that (turbo wastegate modulator), it's certainly on the near-side of the engine block.

Just been having a look through RAVE and up to now I can't find it mentioned at all, but I'll keep looking.

Ps can't find enough info to confirm that the small bore pipe which attaches to the air inlet pipe links to the wastegate modulator - sorry. I don't have a aTD5 engined vehicle in the yard either.

Does it automatically. Didn't realise it was a problem. I can take it off but have to do it every post as its already on there when I reply or start a thread so simply can't be bothered. More concerned with sorting the disco out but will do it this time just for you.
 
hi, does this photo help u any? it is so dark in here that i cant see my own car what it is, but when reading this i spotted the " L-shape" plastic thing. i think that pipe goes in the wastgate operating unit, it has 3 pipes, 1 in the lower cooler pipe, 2 in the wastegate, 3 (i think) in that air intake hose.

i dont know what is in english? im finnish :) but that thing does this: it has commands from ecu like control the wastegate? operation. when too much i think it sends signal from ecu to reduce and so on. i think it can be sold from enywhere in your country, but in here where i live it can only bought from stealers on stock.
 
dont buy of ebay as they r cheaper at main dealers if you want new hose you will find it cheap on ebay 8mm outside 4mm inside silicone hose about £3 free delivery

It's called a "wastegate modulator" in English.
