Been wondering about this for a while, would it be possible/sane to do this?

Do love my Td5 but would like the 6 speed gearbox from the Pumas.

Any major disadvantages from doing this?

Also would it be a 'drop in'?

At the moment just an idea...

Been wondering the same myself,

Motor and diesel do a conversion for TDi to 6 speed.

Its the sort of thing I'd expect Ashcroft to do.

It always feels like it needs to change into an extra gear as you join the motorway.

You don't get many motorways in the east of the country and the chances of overtaking the tractors are also slim so it's an experience you don't get very often James. :D :D :D :D

6 speed isnt an extra one on top

If its worse then ill stick with my current box; just an idea really. Better/highrr cruising speed while keeping the engine under less pressure.

It also looks much nicer inside the cab :D

I have also heard bad things about the puma boxes.

Re motorways though, I havnt driven a puma, so dont know, but ive driven various cars with 6 gears, some the 6th was an extra motorway cruise gear, others ened up with a similar final ratio in 6th and you would 5th, you just ended up changing gear more.

Alternatively a Roamerdrive (formerly Roverdrive) is supposedly a very tough unit that could be used in any of the gears (though I don't really think you need a 10 speed box!). However, at £1400-£1500, it's not the cheapest option...

they gear box was designed for there new motor. the gear ratios are kinda set in between the 5 spd box with 1st being just a bit lower and 6th about the same, and the other 4 are there in between to get max torque and fuel economy as possible.

If you did a search you could find out the ratios of each box, and look at the over drive gear 5th r380 and the 6th in the puma will be very close
