TD5 fan bearing

Lads,

I’ve a 2003, 110, TD5, the fan pulley bearing needs to be replaced, I’ve removed the fan, the 3 bolts that hold on the pulley and the pulley itself and am meet with the flange that the pulley bolts to, need to remove the flange to get access to the circlip that holds in the shaft and bearing assembly in place,

The problem is that I cant get the flange off, don’t know if its threaded on or pressed on, and don’t want to use to much force unless I’m sure I know how its held on. Has any one ever done this before? I’ve rang a couple of land rover specialists and main dealer mechanics but neither cant tell me or have it on there manuals?

The bearing is housed in the engines front casing and removing the casing would involve removing the head and sump.

Any help would be much appreciated.

if your just on about the viscous fan stand in front of it put your viscous spanner on the large nut at the back of the fan give the spanner a hefty anti clockwise knock eventually it will become obviously loose then just wind it off you have to get a complete replacement fan you cant just buy the bearing opposite to put back on hope this helps

Thanks for that Pat. But it is the bearing that the shaft runs on that is worn. I have the viscus fan off but cannot get the bearing out of the housing. I have a replacement bearing ready to go in. The bearing is housed in the front engine casing.
Any ideas?

It's not stated in any of my manuals but I've got a feeling that you have to remove the front timing chain casing to access the idler shaft and bearing.
I don't know for sure and neither does my friendly LR mech. He's never had to change one of them bearings before. Sorry bloke.
