I posted on here a while ago about a vibration at low revs, never got to the bottom of it. It seems to have got worse and now is a sort of whistling, air and vibration noise.

Challenger4x4 had a look in it and said it was the exhaust manifold gasket, a common problem normally on chipped td5's.

Firstly, is this likely to be the problem.

Secondly, Am i better of just changing the gasket myself (is it a big job?), or accepting the modifcation by Challenger4x4 to machine out the webbing on the manifold to stop it recurring in which case letting them do the job.

I have been warned that if the studs aren't already snapped they will most likely snap when removing the manifold, making it more complicated.

Has anyone done this before????

Thanks

Adsey

i've done 2 on simillar age vehicles - one was a right arse and snapped studs the other was a peice of .........

if they are removing the webbings for you id let them do the whole job from start to finish, least that way if anything goes wrong it's ALL down to them thus avoiding getting into the blame game

Think you might have made up my mind.

Is there a way of testing if the gasket is blown, as some people have said it's not the gasket, but not given any other explanation for the symptoms.

having the webbing removed is certainly a recomended job to have done - so let them do it and find out if it really was the gasket, and if it turn sout it wasnt at least you will still have had the webbing job done

oh and get some proper dogs :)

They are proper dogs

Loving, caring, compassionate what more do you want.

I'll admit they're not the best on intelligence and doing what they're told. But they love the Landy so at least they get something right.
