Hi all, can anyone tell me if on the TD5 engine at the front just below the rocker cover the round blanking disc which is about 3 inches in diameter should be firmly fixed in the hole or free to rotate, mine is loose and spins around freely, as i have oil around this area not sure if its from the hole or elsewhere, any info appreciated.

Thanks
Bob

Hello Bob, the part you are referring is called the front camshaft seal. As others has said the 'o'-ring ages, hardens and then no longer seals.

All you really need is a new 'o'-ring, but they are not that easy to find on their own, unless you can find a specialist 'o'-ring supplier.

The oil will almost certainly be coming from this hole - it is a very common issue.

Thanks again Squizzel and thebiglad, just checked out the tutorial and could not be easier, if only everything on the Disco was as easy, went to Paddocks today to get the part and some other bits and forgot to get the seal, its a bugger when you get old, so another trip.

Camshaft seal now fitted and ok, changed injector harness, oil filters and fuel filter, next thing is changing all gearbox and axel oils, also got PAS pump leak and fuel pump regulator leak, will it never end only had truck for 6 weeks.

Stick with it though, sounds like you have suffered most of the common pain.... at least from here on in you will know a good deal about the vehicle and it should now be reliable. btw not having a ready source for a new camshaft plug and o-ring, I just used RTV silicon gasket, that was 2 years ago, good as gold.:)
