Hello

I have a problem with my 2001 td5 GS. When i first got the car the throttle was very punchy and sensitive, you would tap the pedal a millimeter and the power would come in and you could feel the car pulling straight away. I thought that the acceleration was great for a car this size.You would barely have to put your foot down to get up to speed. It had 59,000 miles on the clock when i got it. I drove it all the way to the south of spain and have been living and using it down here since june. I noticed a few months ago the throttle pedal wasnt as sensitve as it was and the accelaration was not as good, it didnt feel like it was pulling as well as it used to on flat road and up hills (there are alot of daily mountain roads where i live). I got a full service on the car thinking it would go back to normal but it didnt. It felt improved but it still wasnt the same as it was before. the gear changes arnt as smooth and going up hill it just rev's loads, and not much pulling power like there used to be.
When you press the throttle down the power doesnt come in straight away and its like the clutch is slipping through 1st 2nd 3rd. going up hills I have the rev the nuts off it untill i can get it into top gear. The car still drives ..ok.. on flat road, but its not as punchy as it used to be and does not accelerate as well. How do i fix this and get it back to how it was.

Can anyone help me :confused:

Possibly the hoses on the pressure side of the turbo need replacing. Sounds like similar symptoms to when there was a leak between the intercooler and the inlet manifold on mine.

First of all, is it manual or auto?

Second, when was the last time you put in a new air filter? Don't assume it was done on the service. If in doubt, put one in.

Third, you need to get the car on a diagnostic computer to see if any of the components/sensors are failing.

Components such as: Mass Airflow meter MAF; Manifold Absolute Pressure MAP; Turbo Wastegate Modulator;

The car really needs to be electrinically diagnosed, for a cost-effective rectification to be applied.

DO NOT TAKE IT TO ANY GARAGE UNLESS THEY HAVE EITHER TESTBOOK, ROVACOM or a NANOCOM and know how to use them. They will not be able to diagnose the problem correctly and will try a series of parts substitutions - which will costs you loads.

Hello.

Yes, i have changed the air filter and performance is still the same. ( Maybe a lil better, but not much.) Yesterday i cleaned out the Maf sensor and the Map with brake cleaner but to be honest they where pretty much spotless. The car is an Auto. Going up hill steep hills is a mish it struggles to get past 30mph on a long steep wide mountain road unless i mega rev it. The car doesn't feel like it starts pulling until you get into top gear. Ive ordered the Td5 EGR Replacement pipe and blanking plate from TD5 Alive, should be here tomorrow so hopefully that will improve things. If not I'm going to take her for diagnostics and see what comes up. Do you think it could be a faulty MAF sensor, will that show up on the diagnostics if it is? The auto gear changes are getting worse. After 55mph its fine, but from a stand still to 45 mph, it holds on to the gears for to long and revs high until it changes. Which it never used to do. When the disco was driving sweet i never had to put my foot down on the throttle anymore than a 1/4 of the way down, it would just feel like a train was pushing it up from behind!! But its way different now. Its drives OK on flat roads and downhill. But as soon as there is an medium to steep incline it just sucks.
