My Disco 2 auto from 04 with 85000 miles has a very irritating problem that no one to date can find or explain .Occasionally , well daily a strange thing will happen when driving at over 55mph the transmission will not shift into top gear, I have to pull over put the selector into Park , then back into drive and then it will shift into top . This happens daily and not when cold , there are no fault codes and the transmission oil has been changed twice and so has the filters . It can be driving perfectly and then all of a sudden when I have the ability to exceed more than 55mph I find I"m reving to 3000 rpm plus and no shift , so i would pull over and select park , drive and get on my way as if the was nothing wrong . Please please can someone give me some good advice , thank you

Wasn’t there a post about this the other day? From memory wiring was suggested. I do partly recall someone mentioning there is a temperature sensor that would prevent it from shifting up when cold but I can’t be certain of that, might be worth doing some searching about but equally it may not even have been about a D2.

Am I wrong, but should you not be in top gear long before 55mph?
As far as I know at 50/55 mph what you should experience is "lock up"
Feels like another gear. Check your MAF sensor us clean.
Just my two pence suggestions

No! Lock up does not occur until you reach 56 mph and you are not accelerating. I know this cos in France 90 kph is about 55 mph and trying to drive legally with lock up is not easy at all. However, all this business about stopping, going into park etc is not normal. you could try checking your waste-gate actuator is properly attached to its mount but other than that I would await the geniuses on here who know about electrical problems.
