As the title says, ive goosed it at an off road day today... my mate did his playing in the snow last week.

Were both running 35x13.5 tyres which i know dont help, but what are the alternatives as the motors do get a bit of abuse

please dont say stick smaller wheels on as that aint happening, so whats the best solution ;)

These breakages are classic examples of why LandRover made the RangeRover and Disco and Defender all permanent 4 wheel drive.

The drive torque on the driving axles was shared with the front axle (which was there anyway) thus HALVING the strain on the back axle.

This system only works when the centre diff is FREE.

The moment you lock the centre diff, all axle diff bets are OFF!

That's why they stick the little label on near the gear levers about using as little throttle as possible in low range and centre diff lockup.

No kidding guys, that saved them designing different tougher axles that could take the strain.

And you lot hoick up the power to about 300 bhp, fit 40 inch tyres, raise the body about a foot, fit a schnorkel and head for the first rockstrewn slope (others say cliff) that looks impossible for anything on rubber tyres and you couldn't get a goat to climb up it supposing a Welshman was after it with his pants down. Crazy man !

But GREAT FUN!!

On the other hand with the diff lock off you start spinning one wheel, wriggle the steering wheel a bit and suddenly get grip on that wheel, and bang, diff gone. You pays your money, you takes your choice!

Honestly Guys, I don't know why you do it!

You buy a LandRover, you spent Heaven knows what time and money doing it up, and then you take it out and do your best to wreck it!

Motto:
"Just because it may be possible, does not mean it is a good idea."

I gave up off-roading for fun when the Queen stopped giving me LandRovers to play with. Now I only do it when I need to. It's still fun!
