Hi, l have just bought a Defender td5 and the fuel pressure regulator was leaking. Diesel was running down the engine and ending up dripping off the bottom of the bell housing. The leak wasn’t that bad, but l recon its been leaking for a while. I’ve changed the fuel regulator, and it fixed the leaking, but when l go for a run, l've still diesel on the bottom of the bell housing. I’ve looked and l cannot see anything that leaks. Can anyone advise, as lm struggling to suss this one out?

I’ve just had another look, it looks to be leaking out of the bell hosing. It’s not engine or gearbox oil, it’s definitely diesel with a little engine oil mixed in.

Yes, they can hang onto oil or fuel for quite a while, so it is entirely possible its just what's left over from when the fuel pressure regulator was leaking. I did my clutch just over two years ago and as I separated the engine and bellhousing quite a lot of oil ran out. I was expecting to have to replace the engine or gearbox seal, but both the crankshaft and gearbox seal were perfectly dry so I left them alone. As that point it must have been 18 months since I'd changed the fuel pressure regulator. So it can hang around for some time.
