I am just in the process of buying a TD5 Defender 90 and when I was reading LRO I saw a comment that made me wonder. Do al TD5 Defenders have traction control and Anti lock brakes? Will someone confirm for me please?

What you done to your landy Ratty? I see your trying to get rid of your mach 5 wheels on another thread.

Ouch, so whats the plan new head, new engine or new landy? I hope it works out for you whatever you decide.

I've got enough money to buy a reasonable priced head at the moment. Most people are selling them untested though. I have no problem paying decent money for a head with test certificate/guarantee but aint about to spend £450 on a head thats effectively scrap until proven otherwise. I can buy a whole engine for around £800. If I buy a complete engine I can sell the block, turbo, injectors, starter, alternator etc and claw my money back.

there is someone on another forum who has a head for me but I'm still waiting to hear back on a price.

You could get your money back with the injectors alone I think but you would want some gaurantee with a second hand engine too. If you can do the work yourself it shouldnt cost much more than your time and I know its still a pain in the arse. Best of luck with it mate.

Cheers mate.:)

I aint doing the work. The engineering company that did the work last year failed to spot the 2 cracks in the head when they pressure tested and skimmed the head. I took it back cos I started ****ing diesel into the coolant again. It turned out the heads been cracked the whole time I've had it. They are gonne do the work under warranty cos it's their screw up. When I they did it last year I had the money available for a new head. Cos they gave me the all clear it's gone on other things. Hence me being stuck without a vehicle.

if they is doing it under warranty - and its irrepairable - are they getting yu a noo one?

This is the grey area. They are under the impression that I told em to fix the headgasket even though they said it weren't gone. As far as I'm concerned I paid em to stop it overpressurising and told em to take the head off wether they thought it wuz gone or not cos i couldn't trust the landy to be able to drive it. I also paid em to skim and pressure test the head.

To my mind that makes them liable for ALL costs involved in getting it to run right. They are saying that as the head was already cracked they will do the work but I gotta find a head.

I'm gonna get the landy back on the road and then once it's running I can decide what to do from there. It's a case of my word against theirs. The good news is I have the receipt showing the price of the head test and skim in my favour.

Thank's for the feedback on this one. Mine doesn't have traction contrrol either, or apparently anti-roll bars (can't see any anyway)
