heys guys i noticed a plug on my oil cooler outlet , doing some research i noticed the metal pipe that runs from the radiator to the back of the cylinder head was removed is this ok ? i was told that it was a land rover modification on the newer model td5s is this safe ? i also noticed a plug on the fuel cooler inlet from the radiator and the hose removed is this yet another modification from land rover ? both outlets from the radiator are blanked off. is it safe to run the vehicle like this? i purchased the vehicle second hand so im not familiar with what was done, any help would be greatly appreciated .

what year is your TD5 and what shape is the fuel cooler? Is it cylindrical with 3 coolant connections or sardine tin shaped with 2 coolant connections?

its a 2001 and the cooler is cylindrical with three ports , thanks for the quick reply ratty

You have the early type 10p engine then and not the later 15p engine.

The metal pipe that goes from the radiator is the one on the top right of the engine as you look at it if I'm following you correctly. The coolant should go from a small pipe branching off the top hose and then along the metal pipe and from there it goes to the heater matrix.

The pipe that is blocked off to your fuel cooler I'm guessing also links to the heater matrix.

FRom what you are saying about the oil cooler my gues is that at some point the oil cooler failed and filled the heater matrix up with oil. Mine was the same when I bought it. It took around 9 or 10 months to get every last drop of oil out of the coolant system after connecting it all up correctly.

you think its safe to leave it like that ? i was thinking of adding a port on the tank of the radiator just where the lower hose fits and routing a hose back to the fuel cooler as for the oil cooler i have been doing a bit of research and alot of people are saying its okay to plug off the oil cooler as done on the later model td5s , my radiator has been changed its brass so i can add on fittings easily think its a good idea ? or should i leave it as is ?

hey ratty the metal pipe that was removed actually bolts to the bell housing . a hose from the radiator runs to the pipe and then to the port on the oil cooler , the heater matrix was still hooked up. sorry about the late reply i just had a look at it and it seems as though both small ports and the radiator tank was blocked off when the radiator was rebuilt

Sorry Lawrence. I misunderstood you.

Have a read of this...........;) http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f50/help-pipe-nowhere-115724.html

hey ratty is seems as though its the same as the newer model td5s should i leave the oil cooler blanked off then ? im going to add the nipple to the radiator for the fuel cooler and route a hose but as for the oil cooler let me know what u think sorry about all the questions but this is my first land rover so not to experience with them

hey guys i think i got it figured out apparently the new radiator being sold has only one port on the tank below the inlet for the lower hose this small port goes to the fuel cooler and a re stricter PCS 000010 inserted into the fuel cooler port ,the port on the tank is open to the radiator tank where as the older radiators had a separate tank within the radiator tank that had two ports one in from the oil cooler and the other out to the fuel cooler. if u anyone has to replace their radiator the oil cooler has to be plugged off use a brass plug as the rubber plugs dont last at all u can remove the metal pipe that runs at the back of the cylinder head but make brackets to secure the harness that runs along the same path. insert the re stricter into the fuel cooler port and run a hose to the small port on the new radiator to the fuel cooler and that should be it . some of the new radiators have the small port but its blocked off , i am making a new radiator so i will have the port open and functioning , if the new one has the port and its blanked off i think u can just add a plug to the fuel cooler port . i did some research and this seems to be correct and both are land rover modifications on the newer td5 engines please correct me if im wrong before i attempt this mod thanks
