Apologies if I'm asking a question that has been covered elsewhere.

I've read a few threads regarding the removal of exhaust cats on 300tdi models. I have a TD5 and wondered if I can expect the same benefits by removing mine?

I realise the engine is controlled by several brains and is more complex than a 300, so if I do remove it, will the ECUs be able to alter themselves to suit of will I need to have the brain re-mapped.

Also, I have blanked off the EGR but have seen kits which remove the valve and pipe altogether and substitute it for a straight through ally spigot. Are these worth the extra or shall I just stick with the blanking plate?

Thanks in advance,

hi i believe early td5 s didnt have cats ,ours is 1999 and hasnt got one,i think the emmission changed so the face lift model from 2003 had tem fitted, but i could be wrong,

Forgot to ask, if I do remove the cat, is it MOT failure?

I had my mate who is a MOT Tester contact the Ministry about this.

It is ok to run without the cat, it can quite legally be removed BUT the reply went on to say, It MAY effect the emmisions part of the MOT, if so a failure will result.

But I do not know any which have failed due to this.
