Hi
Hopeing some one can help, not too worried about it but its bugging me as to what it might be. Before I start the engine, as I turn the key my Disco gives off a slight beep. I am hoping someone can help as it is quite annoying. Just had a full service on the Disco if that helps :doh::confused:

Beeps were one of the "decline signs" of my aux tensioner belt going. Has your radio dropped pre-sets too?

Check your tensioner belt/pulleys/bearing, they run you alternator and the beeps can be an early warning that something is wrong. I ignored them at my peril - ended up with no PAS or Brakes!

My Disco has done this on and off for 2 1/2 years now.
It's the same beep as if you leave your lights on with out the ignition being on.

Never been a problem just put it down to one of the Disco qurks.

When you turn the key ignition on wait for the heater plug light to extinguish, followed by the other lights, upon firing the engine up you will get 3 chimes. This is normal it's a system check telling you it's complete.

3 chimes is normal:

I never used to get any chimes, then my 15P engine was changed to a 10P one. Now I sometimes get 3 chimes after start, sometimes 2 and sometimes none. Is there any logical explanation for this?

Thanks
Gazza

Being a typical male the last thing you do is look in the manufacturers hand book. Anyway, we eventually did that this weekend and 3 chimes after start indicates an ABS failure. There is no mention in the handbook of the 2 chimes I sometimes get???

I'm going with the "hello" theory previously mentioned!

If I select Hill Descent it chimes continuously and the dashboard light flashes (with low range selected) - possibly linked to the ABS issue??

deffinately YES ... and the fact that sometimes there are 2 chimes instead of 3 is quite common for ABS warnings.

check the HI/LOW switch and the clutch switch (plugs/wiring/switch) ... didnt u mention a rev increase when you depress the clutch to change gears in movement?(presuming it's manual)
