Hi Guys,

As we are all to aware, Landover's do like to leave an oily patch or two around and my wife would surely testify to the utter incontinence of my particular Disco 2 but, as of late my periodical splodge here and there has turned into a more constant drip...

After getting under the car this evening I have, potentially, identified the area in which the oil is coming from (I initially thought it would be the sump gasket/seal but, I found that it was trickling from above that area)

As you look at the gearbox sump from the front. The face proceeds up past the gasket/seal and above the main sump onto a machined block. This appears to be pressed up against another machined surface and it is here that I believe the oil is "weeping" out of???

I have attached a picture

of the inspection area and you should see quite clearly the oil seeping...

If anybody could give the benefit of their experience in this matter I would be greatly appreciative.

Cheers,

Mike

i would hazard a guess that it's coming from around the nut at the top, possibly leaking where one of the cooler lines joins the gearbox.

there are two, one from directly underneath and one from around the top left. check these are tight.

Hi Toseland,

Thank you for your reply. I have been under this morning to check those nuts but, they are fine.

I have, with the help of a mirror, now identified that it is defiantly "bubbling" out from between where the two blocks meet in the attached photo!

I have no idea how to approach this..

Cheers,

Mike

it will usually be the cooler pipes need tightening or i have had the pump housing /main casing gasket leak due to bell housing bolts becoming loose ,if its that box needs to come off, torque convertor slid out,box stood on rear end bell housing up,undo all the bolts inside bell housing and remove, pump can then be pulled off carefully and gasket replaced, only pull on outer sleeve dont pull on center shaft
