Been reading up and seems my td5 rear axle I fitted to my 110 200tdi has the new style bearings which are a pain!!! I want the original style bearings back with the 2 hub nuts that I can adjust and replace easily. How do I change back to the original style? Are 300tdi stub axles the same as TD5`s? I dont want to pull the hub apart and look in case I cant set the bearings back up.

the brgs are the same rtc3429/stc4382 just your later axle has spacer to achieve brg adjustment these spacers are selectable to achieve correct setting you could use 300 parts to bolt to case some probably the same

had the same with my td5 90 had to replace all 4 bearings and they are 1 use only once they been tightened down thats it .
with my 110 td5 i have bought a pair of 300 disco axles and i'm going to swap the hubs out for these .(think you'll find the hubs are the problem )

Been researching some more and from what I have read apparently the TD5 stub axles are identical to Defender 300tdi stub axles so therefore I am thinking get rid of the bearings and spacer then use the following parts:

(This is quoted from LR4x4.com where I have found a thread on this problem)

You should end up with:

Bearing | Thick washer | Nut | Thin (lock) washer | Nut.

Thick washer is FTC3185
nuts are both FRC8700
thin (lock) washer is FTC3179

TD5 stub axle is identical to the 300tdi one, which those part numbers are for.

Plus 2x wheel bearings for each stub axle.

Why is the hub a problem?

Ok I read up some more and this is what I will do:

Take off the new type stake nut and big washer behind it, take out the outer bearing, and remove the spacer behind it, discard spacer.

Bearing back in, fit thick washer/lockwashers and double nuts to the old spec, tighten to the correct amount of play in the bearing, tighten the outer locknut and hammer the washer over to lock them.

Im gonna go for it, seems simple.

i dont get your problem Theres no problem with td5 wheel bearings. I would say they are actually easier.

You have to choose from a selection of different sized spacers to get the right adjustment

not once set genuine brgs are the same dimensions you shouldnt need to alter spacer unless you fit pattern and lr garages wouldnt do that
