TD5 110 double-cab pickup rear winch options?

Want to fit a rear winch to the 110.

I've looked at various rear bumper mounts like the Devon bolt on stuff and also the tubular winch cradles that bolt on just under the cross-member but they either ruin departure angles or cause problems with a hitch for towing.

Other option of course is to fit it inside the tub which I was thinking of making a flush floor of anyway to the level of the wheel arch boxes with a lockable box and then another section covering the winch.

Only snag here of course is I'm losing abit of cargo space to the winch (which is already at a premium) and I'd need to cut a hole in the door for a fairlead and need the swing-away out of the way whenever I'm winching which is ok I suppose for its main use which will usually be stationary work anyway with winching non-runners onto the trailer or recovering others that are stuck but if an alternative way of doing it with out it swung open would be nice obviously :)

Wonder how a round fairl-lead right through the center of the spare wheel would work out? :D


My preference would be to mount it under the floor and fairlead at the back just below the floor but the TD5 tank is putting a spanner in the works there


The rear cross-member is starting to show very slight bits of surface rust. Easily treatable but wondering is making up a new cross member to hold the winch the best solution?
Alot that I've seen are still quite bulky looking though...

When my X member has got to the stage it'll need replacing that is exactly what I'm gonna do.

For now I had a receiver winch mount welded to a dixon and bate slider plate and can now have both the winch and the tow ball fitted at the same time even with the spare wheel fitted on the rear door.

It's f**king heavy to lift on and off the landy. I've used a trolley jack to get it into position the two times that I've actually fitted it.:eek:

I had a twin pin slider knocking about but I couldn't find the fecker in my shed when I wanted it. I found it about two weeks after it was welded up.:doh::doh::doh::mad:

In theory I could still use the 2" box section under the winch plate to mount a recovery point or tow ball etc.

Ive made a squire socket for all my towing bits, so may make something like your first pic or build a new rear bumper and buils something into that

You can get receiver winch mounts on ebay for around £60. I paid summit like £10.50 for mine on ebay, complete with the winch rollers and 2 brand new 100ft winch cables.

Cos I use my landy for work, everything had to be rated for insurance purposes hence going around it the way that I did.
 
prop got enough off cuts to make something, but for a tenner it wouldnt be worth me making one

Plus, there's the added bonus that if I was using the trailer and I didn't want to be winching off the 110, I could have a similar mounting to the silder on the front of the trailer to mount the winch on that too if needs be.


Must get a new hitch first though as the one I have is a slider hitch but no stays so its trying to strain and tear the rear cross-member off with any sort of a load on it :(

Being able to remove the hitch would be nice but don't want to be putting any twisting pressure on the rear cross-member like what my current pos is doing.

Otherwise I'll just get a sliding dixon and bate and remove it if I ever need the clearance for some off-roading :)

doing a bare chassis rebuild on my 110 now so thinking about a rear winch again.

Has anybody seen anything like a winch fitted under the tub kinda behind the A-frame cross-member. Not sure if there'd be enough room with suspension travel but thinking of fitting a winch cradle there before galvanizing and have the line come out along between the floor and fuel tank and a fair-lead on the rear cross-member.
