Hi,

Not sure if anyone can help - but here goes.
My TD4 freelander ran low on fuel the other day and since won't start (I think the fuel sender is also on the ****!). The AA folks plugged into OBD and told me it had 'no high fuel pressure'. I have been forced to get recovered to the nearest garage - not a LR specialist but one that deals primarily with Peageot / Renault..but diesels none the less. The AA guy advised that he was getting fuel out after the filter when he disconnected the lines - but no high pressure according to his laptop. I am still waiting for the garage to have a look at my wagon but am concerned that they may just try and stiff me for anew fuel pump!!! Any help in diagnosing / checking what the garage are doing would be much appreciated. Also if anyone knows a non-main dealer LR buff that may help in the hampton court surrey area - any numbers greatly appreciated.

Thanks

A high mileage in-tank pump will continue to function if the fuel level is kept relatively high (syphoning effect etc) a low fuel level causes the pump to work harder and if the pump is near the end of its life it will give up under these circumstances. The low pressure fuel sensor sends a low voltage signal to the ECU which in turn prevents injector operation to avoid damage to high pressure components.

might be looking at a failed injector, causes excessive leak off of the pressure, which can't build up so it fails to start as the pressure at all four injectors has to be the same.

there is a recent post of how to check

Thanks for the feedback - the garage that has my car has told me they will need 3 hrs and £200 to check the fuel pumps before they can tell me what's wrong with the car. I have asked them to put it back together and roll it out.

Does anybody know/recommend a good LR specialist that can come and have a look at my car - I am based in the Hampton court / surrey area.

Thanks

go into search . . . .its well documented and not that hard to diy ,the hardest part is finding out wot part is suspect or u/s. . . .with LR diagnostics it will only chuck up a fault ie low fuel pressure. . . .not were the fault is. . . .so read all the bumf on here :) :) :)

I would suspect a clogged filter. By allowing the fuel to run low, sediment from the bottom of the tank would be sucked up blocking the filter. This is situated on the left hand valence under the bonnet on Vin nos. below 226805 and underneath the car inside of the rear wheel arch on later models. (Thread on changing this elsewhere). On sensing low pressure the pressure senor prevents the engine running to protect the HP pump for cavitating and breaking itself to bits. Changing the filter is a cheaper first try (~£18) than chaning a pump (£200?).
