I have a managed to find a good condition, used wiper motor from a 2002 TD4. I intend replace the faulty unit in my facelift 54 TD4 but before I take the old unit out (only fault is the delayed wipe function) can anyone confirm that they are a straight swap?

I cannot believe that LR would have changed the design but I would be grateful for confirmation.

yes strait swap but it might not be the motor it could be the ecu for it and that is encased under the cabin fuse box it is a all in one

Cheers. I may as well go ahead and change it then, seeing as how I have it. If it doesn't do the job at least I will know the next place to look.

A while ago I found this on a different forum. It refers to a similar problem I have with the intermitant wiping and it does say that the relay is in the ECM but also mentions that the park switch is normally in the wiper motor???

Intermitant wiper parking problem - Freelander Forum - LR4x4 - The Land Rover Forum
Interesting read with pictures.

Someone quotes that.......
"The wiper motor is directly under the plastic trim at the lower edge of the windscreen, accessed from outside. Where the wires enter the wiper motor, it is 'potted' using some sort of resin. This resin degrades with time and cracks (it is also exposed to sun/rain etc through the slots in the trim).

Examining the potting, I could see the cracks, and water tracks across the terminals.

The solution I found was to remove the wipers and trim to gain access to the wiper motor.
Clean out all of the old potting resin, and thoroughly dry the contacts with a hot air gun. At this point you can test the 'parking' function of the wipers.
I then re-potted the terminal box with silicone sealant, and covered the terminal box with a lid made from plastic off-cut (again stuck on with silicone).

Not saying this is an exact fix but it worked for this guy.

Except the OP is talking about wiper delay, not intermittant parking.

Think I may not have explained myself properly in my original post. I am unsure what the difference is between "Delayed and intermitent" operation.
In my case;
Wiper switch in pos 1 = Wipers move to top of screen, wait a few secs and return to bottom again. Will not do a full there and back sweep in one go.
Wiper switch to pos 2 or 3 = work fine back and forth, but stop anywhere when the switch is turned back to the off setting. I have to manually flick the switch on and off to get them to park at the bottom of the screen again.
I will change the motor next week and will post on outcome.
Thanks for your replies.

Ahhh. All is now clear. I should have searched harder. Will have a play with it once it's off and if fixable will offer it on the forum.
Thanks Brack
