i have tested my car it all works fine in first and reverse but the green light does not come on but more importantly the three lights never go off on dash have used it off road up and down steep hill all does what it should what is the problem

Serch for "Three Amigos" on the Freelander forum.

Possibly an abs sensor failed. Connecting your car to a computer will allow you to read the fault code. This will coonfirm which if a sensor has failed, or something else.

HIPPO .Thanks for advice took it to be plugged in it was the front left wheel sensor bit of a shock though £213 fit it myself then free reset if needed so £40 test plus £213 part
but £260 for two years ownership no to bad

If it's the abs wheel sensor, then serch this site for the part number. They're a lot cheaper on the web.

Thanks for letting us know what the result was. Helps us all learn.

Hi mate, just before you go spending loads of money on new sensors etc, I had a similar problem on mine a few weeks back and the problem was not sensor related.....It was due to the connector which attached to the starter motor from the battery.

This connector had rotted away and was causing a short in the system which meant the ecu was then sending incorrect signals to all the sensors.......All lights coming on, but when it ran it was fine, until the connector finally rotted away and shorted.

To check, remove the engine cover (two 10mm bolts) and then look directly down (approx in the centre opposite the radiator - if that makes any sense) another way to check is follow the wire from the battery as it leads to the starter.

Also check the wire from the starter to the alternator as this could be causing a short also. The bolts holding the wires in are all 13mm iirc.

Hope this helps you save some cash....

Riki
