  1. my freelander 2 2010 had one day refusedto start or do anything, it would accept the key and nothing else,
removed the steering lock as it seemed the most common thing, but no not even with a bypass would it engage the dash, only the red blinking light. after removing the fusesand charging and discharging the battery and system controls nothing , then foundthis site which the threads indicate that theres a good chance it could be theinstrument cluster and have it removed and tested,

managed to remove it and found a test and repair centre near by only to be told that i had fried it due to jumping the car off a start and charge pack, and that they couldn'tcheck any of it through to find the component failure, note one to self always charge the battery off the motor ,
i then found a replacement on ebay with the same part number which arrived and nicley wrapped with a note saying that it came off a freelander with 77k miles

it came to fitting the new one in, i had read every thread on exchanges of these units but none of them had said anything about you can just change them with no issue and that most would need a software updateafterwards, ive got it booked in next month to check the software and upgrade shouldshe need it and ill post what was found, although the guy has already informed me that he cant remove the vin number off the donner unit

well i done it and it works a treat justchanging them over without any problem, the lock disengaged and dash lit up asNormal and she started first go on thebutton, my original millage was updated to its 103k miles as well so must be held in another unit as well as the cluster, although had the new come with grater milage would it have displayed that i dont know.

my symptoms of this failure were, no sounds when the fob was inserted, only a red blinking light on the cluster, very dim indicators flashing all round with no lights on the red switch inside, the throttle body motor continually making noises not the normal open and close just a whirring noise which went on for ever, had to disconnectthe battery to stop everything,

charged the battery back up, done a hard reset of the positive and negative leads of the battery, installed the new cluster and reconnected the battery and with anticipation put in the fob, the sound of the beeping telling me the key being in the ignition was good the hear and a press of the button were running again.

Good to know. LR say you can't swap the Ipack for a second hand replacement, so that's not exactly correct.
If you run a diagnostic, you'll find a code come up referring to milage tamper, which can't be cleared, which is probably what LR are referring to.

The milage is stored in several modules, from memory it's in the Ipack (obviously), the ABS module, the CJB and TR module too, so yes it'll go over to the Ipack on starting.

Thanks for that, it’s in for a plug in next month for software errors and any faults logged which I’ll guess there be a few .hopefully should be ok, been running around all weekend with no problems , don’t have the dot showing in info screen to indicate a tamper either which I’ve read in a thread
I’ll post once it’s been done with regard to the vin and mileage issue in the instrument cluster
Thanks to all threads on this site relating to cluster issues been a help at time
