Hi all. On the physical external body of a TD4 injector at the top before the fuel inlet section, there is a metal sleeve and washer (spacer?) that can move up or down (about 15mm either way) On 2 of my injectors this is loose and free but on the other 2 it is seized solid. Is this sliding section essential for anything such as seating the injector in the bore?

Thanks.

Scott

Got a picture of the part you're talking about?

I will post when I can... To describe it better...When you slide on the injector retaining clamp prior to installing, a little bi of up/down play is present. However, when the collar on the injector is slid up it holds the clamp firmly in position. Perhaps this collar is to ensure a good square fit of the injector/clamp and to prevent false torque on the clamp retaining nuts?

The red section in the attached image shows the collar section. You can just see the separate spacer/washer above it. On 2 of my injectors, this whole thing slides up/down approx 15mm.

Hmmm. Yes, mine will move more. I really dont know if it's worth spending the time freeing the collars on the other 2 injectors or just putting them in? - As it stands, they have obviously seized while in that position.

at about 5:53 in this YT .. he dismantles the injector ..

i.e. maybe some info in there ..
```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
that were a yt search "stc4555 injector disassembly"
there be other vids ..
afaik .. there be a thread or two in this forum showing a disassembled injector
try a forum search ..
`````````````````````````````````````
only experience here .. be looking at a new one ..
then looking at a clamp pic. .. to see how it might fit ..
so the injector copper seal sits on the injector seat ..
'n the clamp tightens down on that spacer / collar ..
which in turn pushes down on that outer cylinder ..

there seems to be a collar on the outside of the lower piece
i.e. a removable collar ..
that stops the outer cylinder from moving down more than 3 mm ..
[ in the pic u posted that removable collar be clearly visible
[ at lower end of your red marking ..
and it seems to butt up against something solid inside

just wondering about the 15mm of movement ..
i.e. how it might effect the final fit and clamping inside the bore

btw: you do know that the injectors for a 2006 td4 be different
for manual and auto-gear box vehicles ..
[ i don't know the specific diffs. apart from £price ]

as for those seized collars .. no idea ..
if they could be used as is {sorry}
rekon i'd seek the advice of a specialist

there be one or two lz residence who have dismantled injectors
and refit them ..
hopefully they might pop in with some info ..
bit of a long-shot that ..
best to search the forum ..

The tube your talking about is there to stop the injector from moving side to side in the head. If the injector can move, it'll compress the copper sealing washer, and cause leaking. These spacers are fitted to lots of common rail injectors, but normally they are made of plastic, like those my FL2 injectors.

I don't think it matters of it's stuck to the injector body, but it could make subsequent removal difficult, if the tube sticks in the head.
