Td4 hesitating off idle

Hi all,

My mate's 03 FL1 has started hesitating as you press the accelerator, but revs fine once it's got going. There was a hissing sound as the revs built up but that was traced to a split 90 degree pipe to the EGR. We've replaced that, but the hesitation remains. There is no check engine light. Any thoughts?

Other relevant info - car is used for short journeys mainly, and has been starting with a lot of lumping, juddering and smoke for a while.

I have been suffering similar issue with my TD4, heart stopping hesitation at road junctions. Just fitted an EGR bypass kit this afternoon. She now picks up instantly, £26 well spent!

Thanks, GHR630. I'll try disconnecting the EGR vacuum hose and see if that makes a difference. If not, I'll take the valve off and have a look inside - it may be that this car and yours has a stuck open EGR.
