Hi, I have just bought a Freelander TD4 and the handbrake on my feels like it needs adjusting.

I need to know weather it is self adjusting or uses a manual operation?

Thanks

I havent had chance to have a look at the drums yet so not sure what method I use to adjust them.

Is it just the normal, turn the small gear/cog that is next to the shoe?

if you do a search on here for RAVE CD, you'll find a link to download it which will give you all the instructions.

However, condensed from Haynes:

2. Depress the brake pedal firmly at least 30 times to set the self adjusting rear brake shoe mechansim.
3. Apply the handbrake fully, counting the number of clicks......the handbrake should be fully applied no sooner than four.....no later than seven
4. If adjustment is required, there are adjuster nuts under the carpet just behind the handbrake.
5. Apply the handbrake and check all linkages and cables move freely
6. Jack up the vehicle then with the handbrake level on 1st notch turn the handbrake adjuster nut until the wheels just begin to drag
7. Release the handbrake lever and check the wheels spin freely
8. Confirm adjustment by applying hand brake one notch at a time until the wheels lock. The wheels should be locked between four and five notches
9. Lower the vehicle and check again

To get to the adjuster nuts, you might have to remove part of the centre console between the seats if its fitted

OBVIOUSLY no liability is accepted for any information etc etc
