New here today and posted in the Newbie area as suggested by the forum owners.Looks like now many of you lot visit that area so i was hackled by a defender owner, lol.Read through quite a few posts this afternoon about Freelander fuel economy and how i can improve it.So far the conclusion that i have came to is to keep hew well serviced and poss purchase a blanking plate, see sticky above. Not looking for 100 miles a galon but in this day and age just trying to get the best for my money.Have i come to the right conclusion or is htere anything else you suggest, there is a shed load on this forum and it is hard to work out what to do.EG,is it worth spending 42 quid or just better to remove the pipe and blank it off.It has been interesting but to be honest i am a bit dazed and confused ;-)

Hi Aaron, :welcome2:
We have an '06 TD4 manual, it's had an EGR bypass (Ebay) for just under a year.
The EGR valve cloggs up and reduces the airflow or worse sticks and messes up the whole engine response. The by-pass does not directly improve MPG but after fitting one the engine works better and you can adjust your driving style to get a better MPG or just enjoy the increased flexibility ???
You can just remove the vacuum feed but that leaves the valve in situ.
Changing out the Crankcase Breather for a BMW type is a good move. The LR ones get forgotten (not changed during services) and clogg the result being blown turbo seals and a BIG bill.
Some membeers sing the praises of Millers Power Sport (EcoMax) fuel additive, even claim more MPG - I use it as a precaution against injector problems - at £200 an injector seems a no-brainer @£1 a tank fill.
Check out the threads and stickies for more info.
Read up a lot on the forum and then decide what options suit what you want to achieve.
May all of your (hopefully infrequent) problems be cheap to fix ones! :tea:

PS - I assumed from your tag that you have a TD4 doozle?
