Hi I have been having problems with poor starting
I have changes the seals on the pressure regulator and it is a bit better
Today put a code scanner on it ; only a cheap one to look a fuel pressure but it would not show it (does if I use it on my van) but did find a problem with map sensor it reads 99 kpa if engine is not running and does not change if it is running what ever the rpm, shows no faults
took it off and cleaned it then it would not start, moved it a bit, then it did start but not very easy, and still shows 99kpa, I will replace it but why does it not show fault?
 
If the MAP sensor port is blocked, then it'll not react to pressure in the boost system. Of course it could also be the reader not actually giving the correct live value for that sensor.
When I took it off there was a plastic cover over it which I though was part of the sensor but the pictures of the new ones do not show it so wander if I need to take that off and clean it, there was a lot of oil on it and think the plastic bit might be full of oil

The MAP sensor should have a small tube with a tiny hole in the end. The tube enters the manifold, and a seal at the base of the tube seals the sensor to the manifold when the bolt is tightened. There's nothing to remove, and doing so will break the sensor.
Have you got any pictures of your sensor?

Hi did not take a photo but the part that goes into the manifold looks different from photos of new ones
 
Well just to update, installed new map sensor, when I went to install a wire to it had broken, installed new one and fixed wire and map sensor worked okay, car had more power at low revs and was better to drive but still did not start that easy,
got my new thinkcar diagnostic tool, which does not seem to bad for the money it will read most thinks on the freelander, my Citroen van and my sons ford.
This showed I had a injector that was not that good, I decided as it has done 250 000 km I would change all of them for recon units as I could get 4 for £250 and 1 would be about £80.
Yesterday morning (I had not fitted new injectors),it was cold here and the glow plugs came on for a bit of a while and for the first time in a long time it started first turn of the key which it did not do even when left more than 20 min in the summer which was interesting.
This morning installed new injectors, run the car to get it hot, then quickly took manifold off so still hot and then all the injectors came out no problem, just twisted them a bit, can not go to far as do not want to break studs,then pulled them up, did think it might be harder than that, installed new injectors no problems except lost a manifold nut in engine as in a bit of a rush to get it off before engine cooled, must have spent longer looking for that than the rest of the job and still did not find it think it is 7mm and could not find anything to fit it but will be okay until I can get one
Car now starts first turn of the key every time (but still day one) hope this is end for a bit
