I also have the LR cranckcase breather changed for the BMW breather.
(placed some pics in my album)
How often does that have to be wiped out?

did you order from bmw part online or did you have to go to a parts specialist ?

cheers

Still happy with it. I have a mate who works in the automotive here in the Netherlands. He ordered for me.

Now want to bypass EGR with the black powder coated one on eb.y

I have just ordered the upgraded replacement bmw part to replace mine.

want to fit it asap as mine is showing signs of it being blocked, oil spitting out dipstick etc... want to fit it before my turbo gets killed !

:(

Just done mine, replaced with the BMW part

Filter was horrible, even though it has 34000 miles on the vehicle and Landrover Service history. Smoked on start up and first 1/4mile of running.

When I changed the turbo hoses at the same time as they were soft, found loads of oil in the inlet tract. Cleaned out the EGR, (being replaced with a bypass this weekend)
After a day or so no smoke on start up and a bit of water vapour as it drives away. CURED :D

Bonnybrook, this thread is well out of date.
Use the BMW replacement, works on a centriguge method and doesn't get blocked, can be washed and re-used.
Part no. is 11 127 799 367 only available from BMW dealer approx £18.

Vic,

I've just bought the ebay filter and seals for 11 quid - going to give this a go (save cleaning old one!). Inflation seems to be raging on the full kit - I paid £25 quid over 2 years ago now £40! I have a feeling this is the same filter as used in the Rangie oil burner so might explain it. I will post some pics of what it looks like after 2 1/2 year and 20K since I last changed.

Good idea on the BMW - will look at that next time if shes still running then! Going to give the ERG and inlet a good clean out too and see if it helps the smoking.

Well it's done - didn't look too bad after 20K and 2 1/2 yrs but felt hard. Also cleaned ERG which was done at same time as breather and clogged up again. Removed ERG pipe and blocked.

Can report no smoke at all now.

Now to try and clean my hands!

I can't understand why you didn't just do the BMW vortex conversion instead of the filter, and fit an EGR bypass pipe.

Would save you doing those jobs again.

EGR bypass on the shopping list :) and a Synergy

Strangely I enjoy servicing the engine!

Hi Guys

Just bought a 2003 TD4 Freelander, could one of you point me in the right direction for the new BMW replacement from a website?

Thx in advance!

Have a look at the post by vic middleton on this thread as he gives the correct BMW part No. All you need to do is visit your local BMW dealer who should have it in stock. These rarely appear on ebay and even when they do can often be more expensive with PP than the dealer.

Hi Mark2, I want to replace my crankcase breather filter on my TD4 Year Nov 2000 to the BMW vortex one that doesn't require replacing every year. Been searching but can only find one on ebay for £45. Is that the going rate? Thanks
Regards
Martin

You only need the plastic insert that costs about £24 from any BMW dealer, this fits into the existing breather body after you have removed the original filter.
