Hi all.

Just bought a 2004 TD4 in October this year from Dunecht Motors.

I found my first problem just the other day.

When I start the car first thing in the morning and the temperature is zero or below, diesel is leaking. the wet spot is under the engine at the right hand side. There is no leaking if the temperature outside is above zero.

I had it into the garage to get it check and it never leaked with them so nothing was sorted.

I phoned back today and said it only happens when the temp outside is really low.

Appreciate if anyone can help find the problem.

Are you sure its Diesel??? All Freelanders with AIR-CON leave a small puddle of water under the engine bay if the air-con has been switched on. Even if you switch it on for a couple of seconds you will still see the puddle.
 
do you have the auxiliary fuel burning heater, which only operates when the temperature is really low, burns fuel from the main tank with a separate feed. Could be leaking, located behind the front bumper
 
When I had a fuel leak a while back it was one of the Spill Return pipes had softened and become disconnected.
 
I am taking car to the garage tomorrow and have mentioned the possible problem with the FBH.

so i take it you have a fbh then. just seemed to be the only common link with it being cold, and the fbh only comes on when it's cold.

let us know how you get on
 
Thats my car in the garage again so hopefully get it back all sorted.

The guy that sells the 4x4's there said he has never heard or seen of this problem before.
 
hi, did you get the problem sorted.

mine is leaking a small amount of diesel, from the drivers side at the front.

it also only happens when the engine is cold.

i was told it was the fuel pump seals sometimes fail and as the engine gets warm they close up hence the leak stops.

Hi dont expect this garage to sort anything, we purchased a £17000.00 bmw with 6 months top of the range warranty from them, gearbox packed in after 5 months neither garage or their pathetic warranty company paid the £2000.00 repair bill even though their waste of paper kid on warranty company engineer said that the gearbox had the problem when sold. this garage would not pay 1 penny to repair hows that for service in fact they were so confident when threated with court action they stated NEVER BEEN IN COURT BEFORE AND NOT ABOUT TO; both them and their warranty company could not produce genuine engineers certificates. BE WARNED THEY ARE RUNNING A SCAM. they kept stating it was wear and tear in the automatic gearbox and got the same crap as you never heard of this before we have had to go to office of fair trading to try and get some of the £2452.00 back . OUR ADVICE STAY CLEAR OF THE ARTHUR DALEYS DUNECT 4X4 ABERDEENSHIRE YOU WILL GET STUNG.

I wonder how one can cause wear and tear to an automatic gearbox when the electronics are programmed to prevent such an occurence and a £17k car would be young in age and miles?
