Hi,
I have a Rover 75 which has the same clutch, concentric slave cylinder and gearbox as the Freelander TD4.
I would like to know if you guys are having the same problems with the TD4 concentric slave cylinders failing as us 75 owners are?
I have not actually had any problems myself - my 2002 75 is on its original clutch, master and slave cylinder (will need changing soon). However it seems the components available to buy these days are of inferior quality to the original parts, as quite a few 75/ZT owners are having slave cylinders fail shortly after a new clutch has been fitted. This premature CSC failure could be after just 4k miles for example, some have even failure straight away. Certainly many have had new CSC's fail within a year.
What make of CSC to you recommend on the TD4? Who makes the genuine LR part?

You should find a LUK concentric will last as long as the original part.

Oh just for reference, the engine is the same for the R75 and FL1 TD4, however the gearbox is different. ;)

Fewer replies than I thought I would get.... perhaps it’s not such a problem on Freelanders for some reason. That would be strange as the slave cylinder is identical just with different shaped/length pipe work. Some people fit Freelander TD4 slave cylinders to their 75’s and bend the pipe work or swap the pipes because they are a bit cheaper.

LUK slave cylinders of the last few years are one of the worst offenders for failing soon after fitment in Rover 75’s. The original parts from factory were LUK and would last 10years/100k miles + (both my 2000 75 and 2002 ZT have original clutches and hydraulics) but any now seem rubbish. One Rover specialist says he has tried them all and can not get any more than 30k miles out of a slave cylinder.

Perhaps for some reason the slave cylinders made for the Freelander are higher quality?
