Did all the Td4 Engines in the Freelander have an Acoustic Cover fitted. Some of the drawings in the RAVE disk show it but mine doesn't have one fitted.

I would be a little surprised if it had been left off as it has unly been serviced by dealers until now.

Mine being a MY01 has the full acoustic cover (see pic.), I know that the later years only got the smaller one, just covering the rear of the engine. Sorry but don't know what year the change was made.

Missing Link[/I], I wouldn't put it past the dealer to snap some fixings off a cover and not replace it.
(A dealer's mechanic once nicked my mobile phone out of a locked glove box - left it there on a test drive).

Do you think the later models MY04 got a smaller cover because the engine design changed, or was it more likely a cost saving exercise from LR that
left the covers off?!

Mine doesn't have any cover at the front, yet has two visible holes at the front for some bolts that are missing.

So at a wild guess Willo, the later design is two piece cover and your MY01 is a one piece.

I don't know what the politic of LR is in regards of the either full scale cover or half one. What I saw, my cover is off most of the time, just put it on to go to the MOT, is that in my plastic housing there is also an unused hole. The top one of the two is also unused even with the full scale cover. All I need to do to take off/put back the cover is two screws on top of the engine and the one below you marked as 2nd hole. Just took a pic. and the yellow arrows show the three points where I have to fix my cover, the blue arrows indicate the same place for a "missing bolt" as on your engine. The engine of the Td4 is the M47 of BMW and there is, as far as I know, no change been made in the construction of it over the years.

Mine's missing too, but I'm told it only makes a small difference. Doesn't bother me.

No, that's why I leave it off for 11-1/2 months a year:D:D:D:D, only difference one "might" hear is that, imo, the turbo can be heard better, but still, that also is very individual person to person.

The smaller cover was fitted from around the beginning of 2003......

I have a narrow cover over the injector cabling but not over the plenum assembly which is on top of the intake manifold. The rave disk only has a full cover. I assume then this was replaced and I am not missing anything.

I have gone through the rave disk and cannot find any drawings which include the plenum chamber.

No your not missing anything, the rave information is well out of date.........
