So, since I found an easy way to use the CDL on my TD5 I was wondering when should one prefer using the CDL instead of the TC and vice versa.

For example I found that the TC in mud is not very helpful since by applying brakes in one of the front wheels it makes the vehicle turn unexpectedly (makes the car uncontrollable in a degree when moving on muddy terrain)

What do others think on this matter?

It's simple , if you have CDL always lock it before you go off road, that's all

If I do lock it while the engine is running then the TC will also be active. If I lock it before turning the engine on then the TC will be deactivated.

I remember you saying that the first scenario is not optimum.

I my case I can have 3 different options;
Only TC
Only CDL
TC and CDL

If you have the early type SLABS ECU then the best is diff locked before ignition as to bring on the two amigos, with the uprated ECU TC and CDL are working well together

If you have 1 front & 1 rear spinning even with CDL in you are stuck without TC.
TC was LR way of trying to intergrate ABS to do something else so they didn’t have to fit LSD or other locking diffs.

IMHO:)

Yes, I understand that and it works in most cases. The thing is that in muddy conditions when the TC kicks in and locks one of the front wheels the vehicle then suddenly swerves to the left or right. At least this is what I have experienced in a couple of cases.

3rd option or axle locker

And that is with CDL in?

Actually the 500070 is an upgraded 000150 but not huge difference, it's better ''balanced'' with TC operation and has an improved diagnostic protocol

Yep. More recent firmware upgrade on the SRD500070 (I’ve seen as recent as 2013) but it’s costly due to the demand and rarity plus it was manufactured in Poland.
These are mine...
