hi all i have a tax exempt series 3 and just would who els out there has one or knows of 1 and how many are left.=)
....1972..... genuine by the amount of welding i have had to do ...
"Oh yes, it's a Series 2 rebuilt with Series 3 wings" ... yeah right! And the bulkhead, and the dash, and the steering wheel, and the doors, and the grille, and the front panel, and the windscreen, and the doorhinges ..... do they think we're stupid???? And that's just the stuff visible in the photos!
the rolling 25-year exemption stopped in 1998, 12 years ago ... so if it's a s3 and you've had it 20 years it won't have been ringed (rung?) for RFL exemption before you got it, assuming the registration is 1971 or newer.
owners of real early s3's can see if they've got the original bulkhead by looking at the drip rail on the bulkhead at the back edge of the bonnet. it should be two short channels, one under each hinge. later bulkheads have a continuous curved strip right across the vehicle.
disclaimer ... this regrettable level of anorackness has been cultivated by having been conned by a ringed vehicle before, and possibly still feeling a bit sore about it!
i know i have seen loads of them and heard of themI can tell you there aren't many genuine ones! Most nowadays (from what I've seen for sale and trundling around) are quite clearly newer 3's that have had ID's from earlier vehicles put on them.
assuming the registration is 1971 or newer.
I know you meant 31st December 1972?
I know you meant 7th January 1973. (1 weeks grace as assumed to be manufactured in 72.)

I bow to superior knowledge, I always thought you had to prove that yours came off the production line before 31st Dec 1972 if there was a question but happy to stand corrected.
i no one good thing that happen in that month and yearoctober 1972
october 1972
