Disco 2 Tailgate Occasionally won't unlock?

Hi All
Had a search on tailgate not unlocking and the cause seems to be a broken spring. If this were the case with mine wouldn't it just stop working altogether? I have had to climb over the rear seats to open from the inside twice now in 2 months so it is just an intermittent fault. Any ideas? I often have the dogs in the boot and loads of camping gear on the back seat so it could be a problem getting the door open in an emergency.

Springs are fitted to the Disco 1, dont think they are the same on the Disco II.
Think you need to replace the tailgate latch and do it sooner rather than later.

There's a little trick of prizing off the Landrover badge on the rear handle (use an old credit card) then squirting with loads of spray lubricant (EG WD40)

Perhaps but not when its intermittent.
Don't leave it too long or you'll need a Stihl Saw to get in.

You don't actually need to take the badge off to spray, you can get to it from underneath the handle, that's usually for a stick handle though, not a duff lock
