Tailgate micro switch

Recently bought a freelander td4
And for some reason somebody's fitted a internal after market button with its own 12v feed. ? Door handle dos not work. Anybody any idea why they would do this!!

Presumably it was fitted because the door handle didn't work.
Ideally it needs to be repaired correctly.

I've seen new micro switch repair kit on eBay am going to try cheap option first only £25. If that don't work it's garage time an am not looking forward to that.

I had a bad connection on one a while ago at the handle and finding it took more hours than I care to admit to. Fitting a button would have been easier.

I take it the door opens OK with the button. If so then the mechanism part of the catch is OK but there is a sensor in it that commonly fails. A good used mechanism is usually pretty cheap on ebay. If you find one of the connectors is off the mech when you get the door card off then that was probably the issue and the PO is a numpty.
