Tailgate door handle.

I think the handle is going to fall off the backdoor on my FL. It came loose this morning when I opened the door. It was dark so I couldn't see what had happened...........I managed to shut the door. But the left hand side (as you look at the car) comes away from the car!!
Hopefully it just needs a screw tightening.......anyone else had this happen?

Having a spot of bother.?

You have to remove rear plastic trim on door to access the retaining bolts for the handle.

5 or 6 large star heads along base of trim, rest is 'poppers' They just pop out, pull sharply from lower edge of trim. The top part laps over the top edge of the door, so lift upwards when free.

From memory its three bolts holding handle, correct me if Im wrong folks

Mine had a similar problem - the springs had rusted and the release handle simply flopped around - although it still activated the microswitch to allow window to drop and door to open.

I simply replaced with two springs that I had lying around - job done.

I also think its three bolts that holds the handle to the door.

That sounds very similar to what is going on with my handle (so to speak) I will have a look at it when I get home.

I had a quick look yesterday..........the seal around the edge has come away from the car..........and the handle has snapped underneath where the light is. I have no idea how that happened I'm not that heavy handed!!! Me thinks someone other than me has been playing with me car

So I need a new handle............any ideas??

Cats Eyes - try local breakers but be sure to identify which part it is thats broken

I think I should just get a whole new handle?? The underside near the light is split. It's like someone has tried to pull it off!! It's all still in place and if I'm gentle with it I can still open the door. I don't know any LR breakers in my area..........looks like I'll have to pay out for a new one
