Ok quick brief, noticed car was misting up in the morning, after a lot of investigation found the seal at the rear on tailgate near the bottom , drivers side corner was all distorted and allowing water in , so have ordered a new seal as no chance of repairing the offending item, my question is the seal looks as though it just pulls of and pushes on is that correct or should I use some sort of silicone, I was thinking may be a non setting one such as used in drain fittings, any sensible advice welcome, thanks , barry

The ones I have messed with had sealer around the bottom corners either to stick them in place or to help them seal. If you wanted to be safe on the bottom corners and top corners I guess I would use some body sealer or stickaflex , not a lot, just a squirt or smear and then push the seal in place

Hi thanks for all your replies, I spoke to a mechanic in local 4x4 landrover specialist and he suggested fit with out first and if it still leaks try taking of the 4 bolts each side that hold the crash bar on at the rear and reseal with some silicone in the holes and round were the gaskets are as this is a common leak area, the new seal is coming this afternoon so hopefully will get it fitted and keep you updated

Ok quick update fitted seal last night , no leaks but part of the seal had come of in one of the sides so I decided to remove and refit only to find there must have been a bead of sealant in the seal that was activated when the seal was pressed home onto metal . So now I have some sealant that was not quite cured due to it being to cold, what to do now . Went and got some clear window sealant and put a bead of that into the grove, refitted seal and have packed it out with paper to really push home the seal when the boot it closed will leave it at least 48hrs and report the result

Ok no it's not been 48hrs but took the paper packing out this morning and it's been raining hard for the past 6 hours and boot is still dry so fingers crossed may have solved it , till the next time
