Yes,your spelling is worse than mine - and the disco TD5 is old enough now that most problems are well known and should not cost a fortune to diagnose.

I've had a 2001 td5 ES (top spec with full leather interior) for 1 week now and its a great vehicle. bought from independant 4x4 dealer who specialised in discos and range rovers. 83K with full land rover service history for £9000 (inc 12months warranty).

i looked around for 3/4 weeks before i found a good one - there are some bad examples out there but if you find a good one with full history its a lovely vehicle and you won't regret it

doesn't have to cost a fortune if anything does go wrong - there are plenty of small land rover specialists out there who can fix most problems for much less than main dealer prices. if you can fix things yourself you can get most parts online just as cheap if not cheaper than fords or vauxhall & as said in previous post there's great advice available on here

spend a couple or 3 weeks looking at a dozen or so examples and you should find a good one.

don't be put of by scare stories - I nearly was, but having had mine for only a week I wouldn't want anything else.

if you can't fix it yourself try and get one with a warranty (you can always buy an aftersales 12 month warranty online for about £450 which covers almost anything - including wear & tear and mot failure! - worth it if you're spending 9/10K on it in the first place.

Don't be put off by the scare stories, while its true that you might need a diagnostic computer for certain faults, this is the same with any modern car. As said above there are plenty specialists that can help, should a problem occur, which if you find a good one, is very rare.

Hi,

Get an after-market warrenty that covers everything (inc labour). I got a 24 month warrenty from Warrenty Direct & it paid for itself within 6 months! It definately provides peace of mind and ensures that your Discovery will always be in tip top running order.
