syptoms of faulty fuel pressure regulator

I fitted a brand new fuel pressure regulator and I am having trouble (wont run, keep needing to purge it, etc) so does anyone know what symptoms to expect from a faulty fuel pressure regulator as I cannot discount that the new one may be faulty?

Sounds like air is getting in. Did you clean/check correct replacement of the small gauze filter behind the FPR when you did it?
