There are too many variables here to take a guess.
Yes - it's the same BMW motor - the M47 D20 engine, but this is the R version the same as the first 320s with 1951cc - but they were followed by the TU 320D and then the TU2 D320 (BMW Technical Updates)
The LandRover Freelander TD4 stayed with the original version with no updates.
