Hello just fitted new swivels and wheel bearings to my Disco 300tdi after problem with being able to rock wheel when gripped at the 6 and 12 o clock position.I set the pre load with spring balance to about 1.3 kg as per rave manual with swivel seal removed. But still have slight rock in wheel.
I have heard the figure 16 Ibs mentioned for setting pre load which is correct.
Gratefull for any suggestions
Cheers Steve:confused:

Its higher than that, when Mark Evans was building his hybrid, it was nearer 5kg he set it at, so thats nearer your 16lb than 1.3kg anyway.

Steve

I have the same play on ours and was under the impression that it was the wheel bearings that just needed tweaking up a bit:confused:

Hello
I doubt it,s Wheel Bearings. It does,nt seem to matter how tight you do them the Wheel still rocks.
Is the Mark Evans the bloke off discovery channel ? Was his re-build not defender based, and would that not make a differance.
Thanks again

Hello Shanno
Thanks for the info,very helpfull.
Going of that it sounds like the 14lBS figure is used when the swivel seal is fitted, and the figure i used is when seal is removed. So i think ive got the settings right as the truck drives and handles well.
However i did not change the pins when i replaced the swivel and bearings, maybe thats were i,m going wrong :( .If i find out i will post again to let eveyone know.
Thanks again

Steve :)

Yes but he used Disco axles, and no it wouldn't really make a difference. Its all the same parts give or take.
