swivel bearings

Ok i done a search but still bit confused.

My 90 is 1989 used to be a 19j but nows a 300tdi dont know if that matters anyway

I think the swivel bearings have gone. I have major wobble on the n/s wheel up and down and when on full lock it has loud clunking noises.

Its not the wheel bearing as they are brand new and i checked all is well.

The bit im confused about is on busters fixing page on his site it shows upper and lower bearings on the manual copy, but everywhere else i look seems to say only lower bearings and i can only find lower bearings for sale for 90s previous to 1994.

Anyone know from experience what it should have before i strip the git down?

upper ones almost never wear out change the lower bearings and It'll be fine.

pre 300 tdi swivels have top rialko bush/pin and lower bearing ,after its 2 bearings as rrc and disco

they are 60666 but wear may well be in top pin and bush

thanks it does sound like a bearing is out of the race or something and the play is a lot so ill change bearing 1st and have a look at the bush in the process. do I need to remove the whole swivel to get the bearing out?

Before you start to strip everything down, do you have any shims left under the top swivel pin housing?

If so, try removing some of them and see if that sorts out your problem.

Keep it simple!
