Hi,

I need to renew both swivel balls. However the seem to be either a 9mm seal or a 12.5 mm seal.

Any clues what I'd need for a 98 300tdi?

Also is there any bad stories about the britpart Teflon coated swivel balls?

OK thanks so that's a 9mm seal so I guess that answers that part, I ideally need the whole kit, seals/bearings/swivel ball/gaskets etc, which I have seen advertised at a few places, I'm guessing any 9mm seal kit will do then..

Keep the hell away from the Teflon ****e.

I'm mentioning no names of the company I bought them from, but I've just successfully claimed all associated costs back from the people who supplied me with 2x Teflon coated swivel balls, as fitting them lead to this during a trip to Morocco in November of last year:

And if you think it was just sheer bad luck or bad driving, here's a pic of another person in the group on the SAME trip a few days before mine went.
He too bought the exact same type of swivel ball but from different people:

Is there anything I can do to my current pitted ones. Perhaps get them chromed or something? Or would that affect the seal as I'd effectively be changing the dimension of the ball slightlyddue to making the surface thicker

If you saying do t use Teflon ones, what the hell are we supposed to use? Even genuine land rover ones are Teflon coated

It's a good question and I don't know the answer.

An investigation was launched as to why this was happening.
It was concluded that the maker of the swivel ball changed the type of metal/casting they were using and it simply wasn't up to the job.
The product was then withdrawn from the shelves immediately.

Exactly which particular companies the maker was supplying the swivel balls to, I have no idea of, but I think it's fair to say that there is more than one maker of of the Land Rover swivel ball.

Fitted my BP Teflon coated swivel kits in 2007, no problems so far.

Before I bought them I checked around a few workshops to see which ones they actually fitted (not sold in the shop but actually fitted themselves). Without exception they all used the BP items and as I say, fitted in 2007 and have been completely trouble-free with nothing as much as an adjustment being made.

When I had my old S111 I bought some LR Genuine Parts chrome ones (at great expense) and they started to rust after 2-years, VERY unhappy.

The ones that snapped above, were they britpart ones? I don't mind accepting the info via pm and keeping it private if that is preferable

What did you put on yours instead then?

I had to rebuild my front axle in March this year, I'd seen MarkL's post about teflon swivel balls so I was a bit perplexed as to which ones to fit.

I went to Rockingham Land Rovers and spoke to Ray about the situation, they've fitted hundreds of them with no reports of this issue, so I went with their recomendation to fit the BP OEM parts (the one with the number starting with a G).

Since then I've done 7 or 8 play days, over 400 miles of green lanes (inc Wales) and a few thousand road miles, no issues so far, the balls still look like new
