I mangled the front diff on my 2.5 DSE rangie (through no real fault of the rangie, its been whining something terrible for ages but i couldn't do anything about it until now).

I've got a one from a scrapper (its a 98 dse with same mileage as my own but feels ok) that should bolt straight in. I've got replacemnt oil seals for the half shafts and will be doing the hub bearings while I'm at it.

Anything else that I should look out for?

Also, anyone know off hand if the diff ratios on the front was the same for 4.6 and 2.5DSE. I've an offer of another from a 4.6 in case this one from the DSE doesn't work out?

Thanks in advance,:)

Diff ratios are all the same 4.6 and DSE. Just that rear diff on petrol is four pin.

Got a horrible feeling when I went to drain the diff and nothing came out:eek:

Then found one of the half shaft oil seals had failed

The pinion gear bearing has failied but my replacement looks good. The diff casing has right coating of horrible brown gunk. Whats the best way of cleaning this out? I'm tempted to use petrol but any residue could be dangerous. Any good suggestions?

Use Paraffin. Or Petrol ok it will evaporate pretty quickly. Blow it off with an airline. Use unleaded it doesn't burn very well anyway. :D:D:D
